Sensei Amy Beddard
Black Belt 2nd Dan

Amy began her karate training at the age of 10 and now at the age of just 18, has progressed to the rank of Neidan (Black Belt 2nd Dan). She started karate because she wanted to do a sport which she could enjoy, make new friends, keep fit and be able to defend herself. She was interested in Martial Arts from a very young age and like most kids, she has always enjoyed watching Bruce Lee films. She saw a karate class advertised in the local paper and asked her Dad to take her to the class and she has been training at least twice a week ever since.

Amy has been entering competitions since 1998 and in 2002, she gained a place on the England Junior squad. This gave her the opportunity to train at England Level standard and in 2004, she was seeded at the National Championships held at the NIA in Birmingham. She has trained with a variety of Instructors from other clubs and other parts of the World such as Sensei Enoeda, Shihan Akio Minakami, Andy Sherry and Frank Brennan. Now she trains with Sensei Ronnie Christopher. Amy says that she thoroughly enjoys her training and attends the Ruach Karate Clubs at Birmingham, Stourbridge and Hagley.

"I believe Karate is an excellent sport. It provides you with the chance to get fit, disciplined, supple, improve balance and co-ordination and for me, most importantly, self confidence. Over the past 8 years that I have trained it is amazing how many children I have seen come to training hiding behind their parents legs because they are shy. It's always a pleasure to see their confidence grow as the weeks go by and now many of these children are black and brown belts with a self belief that allows them to stand at the front of the class and take over the instructor's role for the warm up session. It's an amazing transformation that I never get tired of seeing and I'm very proud to be part of that process."
