He began to teach karate under the watchful eye of Sensei Ronnie Christopher at all of the Ruach Karate Clubs and in April 2001 opened the Ruach Karate Club in Stratford upon Avon, which quickly built up to approximately 40 active members. The clubs has a wide variety of members from all walks of life with ages ranging from 5 and upwards including parents and their children.
David's Motivation
for Karate
"It doesn't matter what sort of day I've
had, when I arrive at the dojo, put on my Gi and
start training, the normal pressures of life disappear into oblivion. I find
Karate to be an excellent way of obtaining balance. It's not just the physical
benefits that I find appealing it is the realisation that even after 17 years,
I can still learn more about karate and more importantly about myself."
Your Karate Training
with Sensei David Hughes
"Whenever you attend Karate, I want you to be able to feel free to
discuss any concerns about your training with myself or my fellow instructors
who are always delighted to help you. At the beginning of your training you
will be taught how to move in a karate way. Basic punches, blocks and kicks
will be mixed with some pad work and technique related games to ensure you
enjoyment and safety. Kata
or prearranged sequences of basic movements will be introduced as well as
controlled Kumite. Over time, you will progress
onto more elaborate techniques encompassing multiple combinations of these
attacks and defences. Safety in the dojo is of paramount importance and is
regularly discussed in class. It all sounds a bit serious but believe me there
is a lot of fun along the way."
"The
club motto, if we had one, would be "The carrot over the stick"
because in my experience you get more response by encouragement than by constant
criticism. Your lessons with me consist of all aspects of karate designed
to give you a wider understanding of the style as well as the obvious physical
and mental benefits of Karate such as self confidence, self esteem and self
awareness. In addition to these essential attributes you will almost certainly
develop many new friendships along the way."
